認識精油的萃取方式，可以幫助我們了解：

特性：例如柑橘屬精油遇熱後化學成分會改變，所以保存是要注意溫度，同時保存期限比其他種類的精油要短。

品質：不同萃取方式所得到的精油在品質上有極大的差異。例如，以蒸餾法萃取的玫瑰精油和以二氧化碳萃取的玫瑰精油在品質上就有不同。

價格：萃取工藝越複雜，精油的價格就越昂貴。

桃金娘精油

Myrtle (Myrtus communis) has a clear, fresh, herbaceous scent, similar to eucalyptus. Supportive of the respiratory system, skin, and hair, it has been researched for its effects on glandular imbalances* and its soothing effects when inhaled. It is also helpful for meditation and lifting the spirit. Myrtle has an approximate ORAC of 253,512 (TE/L). TE/L is expressed as micromole Trolox equivalent per liter.

桃金孃科植物主要產於澳洲和美洲的熱帶和亞熱帶地區，有100屬約3000種，中國原產有8屬，引種了5屬，共有136種。

常綠灌木或喬木；葉子對生或互生，單葉，多全緣，有透明的油腺斑點，沒有托葉；花兩性，輻射對稱，萼片和花瓣常各4－5枚，雖然花朵纖細，但植株卻能長的高大，而它們共同的特徵是雄蕊多如睫毛、分離或成數束，花絲細長柔，子房常下位，一至多室，有少數至多數胚珠；果實多為漿果或蒴果。

她們的生命力堅強，台灣、廣東、廣西以及印度的氣候適合其生長。桃金孃科植物精油的特性是具有抗病毒、殺菌、幫助呼吸道系統、消炎的療效。它們針對關結炎、風濕痛、咳嗽和傷寒具有特殊的功效。本科植物重要的有桃金娘、番石榴、桉樹、蓮霧、蒲桃、千層樹等。
